Grand Opening of the Church of Scientology Johannesburg
Mrs. Pearl Mashabele, Editor/Publisher Emeritus Tribute Magazine
Thank you very much.
I am so pleased to be here with you today for what is so clearly a turning point for Scientology in this nation.
We are no longer a nation represented by a single color. Rather, we are becoming the diverse nation we've so long dreamed of and worked for. It is happening because people are involved and they're working together. People see the needs of our society and work to make it better in so many ways.
I have seen what your members can do, especially in advancing our culture through the arts. I have seen Scientology inspire great thoughts and great deeds. The Church and its members have always upheld the dignity, integrity and rights of all men and women. Most recently, I have seen your educational campaigns on human rights for youth, to ensure future generations know that they have rights, and what they are.
Already your human rights publications are being incorporated into school curriculums, for the benefit of thousands of students. From what I have seen, this new Church will enable you to carry out these programs and others on an even grander scale.
We as African people have achieved our freedom from repression and indignity. Now we need to steer that freedom towards new goals and new growth. Previously so many well-intentioned yet misguided people tried to lead us into their chosen directions.
Mr. Hubbard clearly understood that only by uniting and working with all peoples
could true progress be achieved. So, this afternoon I would like to pay my
personal tribute to the Church of Scientology. You are indeed setting a powerful
and wonderful example for all.
May the new Church of Scientology in Johannesburg stand forever as a symbol of Africa's new-found hope and confidence.
Together we can experience the national rebirth that we aspire to. Together we will enjoy your Church as a spiritual symbol of what you will bring to this African century.
Thank you.
